BBC Merseyside presenter Linda McDermott hosted the Claire House Children’s Hospice ‘Carols and Candles’ event at Christ Church in Port Sunlight on Tuesday, 5 December.
The local broadcaster and journalist joined Claire House families, supporters and volunteers for the charity’s annual Christmas event, which is an intimate evening of festive readings and carols performed by candlelight. The traditional carols were performed by the Vale of Clwyd Singers from North Wales and the event marked the start of the festive season for Claire House.
The event raised £5,900, enabling Claire House to continue to be there for local families this Christmas.
Event Manager Rachel Handley said, “Claire House is a lifeline to local families, and we are there to hold their hands at the toughest of times. We simply wouldn’t be able to do this without the support of the local community and it was great to see a sold out church singing along and enjoying the carols and readings.
“Very special thanks go to Linda McDermott, who was a fantastic host, HSBC Cheshire Local Market, who kindly sponsored the event, and everyone who sang and performed a reading.”
One of those readers was mum Emma Garner, who also features in the Claire House Christmas Appeal this year. Claire House were there for Emma and husband Dan when they sadly lost their precious son Thomas.
Emma said, “Claire House gave us lasting memories with Thomas. And when your child isn’t here anymore and memories are all you have got, those memories are even more so important.”
