Life Rooms calls for support during Volunteers’ Week

The Life Rooms is marking Volunteers Week 2023 by calling for new volunteers to help deliver support services in improving health and wellbeing for Liverpool and Sefton residents.

Part of Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust, The Life Rooms’ demand for services is growing, and it has made the appeal during Volunteers Week (1-7 June) to help deliver a wide variety of support. This can have a positive impact on the mental and physical health of local residents, and outreach work to support vulnerable people in the community.

Michael Crilly, Director of Social Health and Community Inclusion for The Life Rooms, said, “Volunteers Week is a great opportunity to celebrate the contribution that The Life Rooms volunteers make in helping residents in our local communities to live happier and healthier lives.

“We’ve welcomed volunteers with lived experience who support our service users with empathy, and they make a positive impact every day

“We’re calling for new volunteers as demand for our services grows. It’s a great chance to work as part of a welcoming team and give something back to local people in your area, as well as a wonderful development opportunity for those wanting to move into further employment.”

The Life Rooms runs twice-weekly allotment sessions in Southport and is looking for volunteers with experience in gardening or managing an allotment plot to support the group.

The allotment group support with positive mental and physical health, teach new skills, and offer chances for increased social interactions.

The flagship Life Rooms site in Walton, the previous Carnegie Library, is looking for a volunteer to support in re-launching the library service for local residents.

Mr Crilly, who helped drive the opening of The Life Rooms in 2016, said, “Our library service was a real draw for people in Walton when The Life Rooms opened, now we’re ready to re-launch this service post-pandemic. A library volunteer would help to make this service a success and introduce attendees to our free learning and support sessions that are available too.”
