Lairds take the win in hard fought game

Following the disappointing North-West Counties First Division South fixture in midweek in which Lairds fell-foul of a physical Abbey Hey team and lost 0-3.

They then entertained Alsager Town at home on Saturday hoping for an improved performance, but with Town having the better of the half Lairds were thankful of a 0-0 score line at the interval.

A much-improved effort in the second half saw Lairds create chances but Ben Wood, Ryan Smith, and Jay Harvey failed to make them count. However, in the 60th minute, Ben Kerr floated over a free kick and Kieran Hamm headed Lairds in front.

Not long after Ben Wood broke free but was pulled back by Town’s last defender and he was dismissed.

Lairds were now well on top but had to wait until the 90th minute for Jack Kelly to head home a great cross by Ben Kerr to seal the points in a 2-0 victory and complete the league double over their opponents.

Lairds next two fixtures are away on Tuesday 6 at Sandbach United and then home in the Wirral DFA Senior Cup on Saturday versus Higher Bebington Kelma with a 2.00pm kick off.
