A vital and much-needed success was achieved by Cammell Laird 1907 FC in the North West Counties First Division South as they netted two late goals to take the points versus bottom-of-the-table Rocester.
The opening 20 minutes saw Lairds in the ascendency and with better finishing by Joel Oguigo could have had a 3-0 lead. The game then ebbed and flowed but no score was recorded before the break.
The second half was a dour affair as neither team took control but in the 60th minute, Rocester broke clear and Callum Niven punished a hesitant defence to put the visitors ahead.
Lairds had little option but to force the issue and with the help of substitutes Kalif Koura and Dean Nunn they carved out some good chances as Kieran Hamm proved to be a real menace, but did not level matters until the 84th minute, when Kieran Frost fired home after some poor defending.
Then within a minute, Lairds took the lead as Jason Clarke found the net in a goal mouth scramble and secured the points with a really good comeback effort that cements Rocester at the foot of the table.
Lairds are next at home on Tuesday 28 February in a league fixture versus high-riding Sandbach United – 7.45pm kick off.
Then they are away in the semi final of the Wirral District FA Cup against Capenhurst Villa on Saturday 4 March – 3.00pm kick off.
