Lairds Reserves edge closer to title

Although 14 points clear at the top of the West Cheshire League third division, Cammell Lairds Reserves still require a victory to confirm their title as champions due to waiting for a league decision to go their way.

However, they again put in a strong team performance led by man of the match Peter Charles to overcome a battling Chester Nomads reserve team who are placed third in the division.

Easing into a two-goal lead thanks to a goal apiece by Ben Crossley and Adam Larway, Lairds looked more than comfortable, but a late rally from the visitors saw them reduce the arrears.

And so the final result was 2-1 for Lairds who celebrated yet another victory in this their maiden season in the league.

Lairds Youth will also hope to take the youth division title as they battle it out with Athletico Blues.

Although lying second in the league they have games in hand which should enable them to reclaim top spot and take the title at their first attempt.
