Lairds’ fast start fizzles as Stockport Georgians triumph

Despite the fastest goal scored this season in the opening exchanges, Lairds failed to progress in the Edwards Case Cup as visitors Stockport Georgians claimed a 2-1 success to progress.

Having captain Ryan Smith scoring within two minutes, Lairds started the game brightly with Nathan Johnston causing problems for the visitors as they pressed hard for a second goal, but missed chances and good keeping by Luke Graham kept the visitors in the game and they equalised in the 37th minute through Kyle Wych who was left unmarked following a breakaway. HT 1-1.

A very even second half ensued but with 13 minutes remaining Georgians broke clear and Deco Zanco put the visitors ahead as the home defence failed to clear.

With time passing by every effort from Lairds was thwarted by Luke Graham who produced some great saves and Lairds fell to a 2-1 defeat in a very even affair and have now failed to win in their last five fixtures.

The next fixture is away to New Mills on Saturday with a 3.00pm kick off and Lairds will be hoping to get back on the winning trail.
