Tranmere Rovers will have been heading into this fixture, hoping to make it four consecutive wins in League Two. They hosted Crawley Town at Prenton Park earlier this afternoon.
Before the game, Rovers sat tantalisingly close to the automatic promotion positions.
Crawley Town’s last six fixtures have resulted in two wins and four losses, leaving the Red Devils in 14th position in the division.
Match Report – League 2 – Tranmere Rovers 0, Crawley Town 1
A goal from Tom Nichols’ put paid to Tranmere’s hopes of another win as they hosted Crawley Town at Prenton Park this afternoon. Against form, Rovers lost to Nichol’s 13th goal of the season.
The visitors took the lead at 58 minutes to secure the point on what must have been a hugely frustrating afternoon for the home team. The goal came from a cross from the left which was turned past Davies from close range.
By winning today, the visitors completed a league double over Tranmere, having beaten them 4-0 in October when Nichols was also on the scoresheet.
A great save from Davies prevented Crawley from doubling their lead, when Jake Hessenthaler hit the crossbar after the Rovers’ goalie kept out Joe McNerney’s volley.
As disappointed as the team and fans will be, this is only Tranmere’s second defeat in the last 15 games in all competitions.
Matt Hibbert’s thoughts…
Just a really disappointing result, no complaints whatsoever from me, we were terribly poor all over the pitch from the first minute, only Scott Davies and Kaine Woolery come out with any credit.
James Vaughan being out is a massive blow and let’s hope in May we’re not looking back at it as what cost us promotion.
