Illegally used electric bike seized in Eastham

An electric bike has been seized by officers in Wirral yesterday, Tuesday 16 May.

Two PCSOs were on patrol in Eastham when they spotted two electric bikes at the rear of Eastham Library.

As they approached one male rode off, but the other male grappled with the officer and he then made off as she successfully seized his bike.

Enquiries continue, including CCTV, to identify the riders.

Inspector Dan Greenhalgh of Wirral Local Policing said, “We have seen a rise in youths riding motorbikes, scramblers and electric bikes, often in a dangerous manner which is a significant risk to the public and themselves. In some cases, these bikes are either stolen or used to deal drugs.

“We are continuing to target illegal bike use and theft of motorbikes using police tactics.

“With community support and information provided we will make arrests and seek prosecutions.

“I would advise owners of motorbikes and electric bikes to keep your vehicles securely locked and out of sight, and also be mindful of who is around when you are out riding them.”

Anyone with information about illegal riders can contact Merseyside Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
