Hythe at Wirral Waters shortlisted for prestigious award

Hythe, the cutting-edge business hub located at Wirral Waters, has been shortlisted for the prestigious North West Property Awards by business publication Insider.

The development aims to be a transformational project using innovative low-carbon construction techniques to act as a catalyst for economic growth in the area.

Funded by Peel L&P, the Merseyside Pension Fund, and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, Hythe is situated in the Four Bridges district of Wirral Waters.

Collaborative working proved pivotal in realizing the vision for Wirral Waters, with Wirral Council providing financial support and aiding Peel L&P’s team in delivering the project. Their instrumental support highlights the significance of partnership in bringing this initiative to fruition.

Designed by Glenn Howells Architects, Hythe offers over 25,000 sq ft over three floors of high quality, flexible office space for entrepreneurs and local businesses and was shortlisted in the Commercial Development of the Year category, sponsored by CBRE.

Insider Media Ltd said in the announcement of the shortlists, “This year’s finalists were chosen after a lengthy and robust judging process where all vested interests and potential conflicts were declared. In addition to the judging session, Insider canvassed the views of the industry by holding separate discussion sessions with a number of last year’s winners and other respected sector experts.”

David Hughes, Wirral Council’s Director for Regeneration and Place, said, “Hythe is an important landmark, both as a physically striking building and on our wider regeneration journey. It shows the progress we are making in working with Peel L&P at Wirral Waters and this development already attracting high-quality tenants and helping bring jobs and investment into Wirral. It’s great to see how the work we are doing with partners is being recognised.”

The construction of Hythe brought significant benefits to the local and the wider Liverpool City Region economy. Over £1.5m of the build costs were spent within the Liverpool City Region’s construction supply chain, with nearly a third of the 422 contractors working on Hythe based within the Liverpool City Region. This was a direct result of Peel L&P and GMI Construction’s ‘Meet the Builder’ events.

During the construction of Hythe, many Wirral Met College construction students benefited from site visits and other learning opportunities gaining practical on-site work experience with many resulting in full-time roles in the construction industry.

Insider’s annual North West Property Awards will be announced at their awards night event on Thursday, 11 May 2023 at Manchester Central.
