A colourful new mural has been painted on the outside of the HYPE Youth Hub in Central Park in Liscard thanks to Graham Boyd from Chester’s Absolutely Design mural company.
The eye-catching mural was designed and painted free of charge by Graham Boyd and his team with the aim of capturing the fun and positivity of some of the wide range of free year-round activities offered by HYPE.
Matthew Houghton, Chief Executive and Founder of HYPE, said, “We are grateful to Graham and Nikki Pinder (pictured) for donating their design and painting talents to create this fun, colourful artwork. The mural is a vibrant snapshot of some of our activities and I hope will encourage young people to walk through our doors and find out more. We have lots to offer from football and fitness clubs to ‘rap and beatboxing’, music, ‘Footy Tots’ and Messy Art clubs.
“Everything at the Liscard Road’s HYPE Hub is designed with young people in mind. This is a safe, inclusive place where youngsters (4-16 years old) can hang out with friends – both old and new – and be a regular part of free, fun music and sports groups.
“The Hub has experienced and friendly youth workers and volunteer coaches, modern equipment and technology as well as comfortable seating areas for youngsters to chilling out on.”
Graham Boyd, Founder of Chester-based Absolutely Design, said, “I can very well remember what it was like being a bored teenager and am very impressed and inspired by HYPE Hub. I believe it is vital to create as many opportunities as possible for young people to reach their potential. It felt good to do my bit by offering Absolutely Design’s services to brighten up the exterior of the Hub building. My aim is to capture some of the exuberance and life-affirming activities of HYPE, showing it is a catalyst for creativity and hope.”
Absolutely Design recently finished 17 murals as part of Chester’s new Market & Foodhall complex. The murals, some life-size, illustrate the City’s numerous parades as well as key scenes from the City’s history.
The Absolutely Design team has also donated time and materials as part of the ‘Passion for Learning’ charity, which earlier this summer created a mural with young people as part of its Career Carnival Fun Day. This mural is now on display boards in the cloister of Chester Cathedral.
