Hoylake RNLI is calling on its supporters and the local community to come along to its Mayday Car Wash and raise vital funds to keep people safe at the coast this summer.
The volunteer crews of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) are normally the ones answering mayday calls – it’s the most serious maritime distress call. But this May, it’s RNLI crews that need your help.
Organised by the Hoylake RNLI lifeboat crew, the Mayday car wash will see the volunteers scrub, rinse and polish visitors’ cars for just £5 per vehicle from 10am until 1pm on Sunday 15 May.
The charity car wash makes a welcome return to Hoylake Lifeboat Station after a three-year gap following pandemic restrictions. In 2019, the event raised over £1,000 for the RNLI.
Money raised through Mayday events like Hoylake RNLI’s car wash will ensure that lifeboat crews and lifeguards have everything they need to keep families safe this summer.
Hoylake RNLI Coxswain Howie Owen says, “We’re thrilled to be hosting our Mayday Car Wash again. Our community has always been very generous in its support for their local lifeboat station and we can’t wait to welcome them back. Our crew clean our lifeboat, hovercraft and tractors thoroughly after every launch so visitors can be sure their cars will leave looking shipshape.”
Howie added, “Summer sees thousands of people heading out to enjoy our coast. It’s our busiest time of year as anyone can get into difficulty, whether it’s an experienced sailor, a group of friends on paddleboards, or a family enjoying a beach trip.”
“Our crew are ready to launch to the rescue, but Mayday is our own call for help. We rely on the generosity of the public to support events like our car wash, raising vital funds so we can be there when we’re needed most. Your support funds training, kit, stations and fuel – just some of the things we need to save lives.”
The RNLI’s Mayday national fundraiser began on 1 May and runs for the whole month across the UK and Ireland.
For anyone not able to come along to Hoylake RNLI’s car wash, they can still support the appeal by taking part in their own Mayday Mile – completing a virtual mile or more wherever and however they like – walking, jogging, hopping or skipping!
