Hoylake RNLI assist run aground motorboat

Hoylake RNLI hovercraft launched on Wednesday afternoon to a small motorboat that had run aground off Meols.

HM Coastguard requested the launch of the hovercraft ‘Hurley Spirit’ and her volunteer crew at 4.54pm after the 5-metre vessel had beached on the ebbing tide.

There was one person on board and the Coastguard asked the RNLI crew to check on their welfare.

Hoylake RNLI’s crew soon located the casualty vessel and spoke to the owner, who was safe and well. It was agreed that the safest option for them would be to lay out an anchor and walk ashore, before recovering the vessel on the following afternoon’s tide.

The RNLI crew updated the Coastguard on the owner’s intention, before returning to the lifeboat station.
