Houlihan’s Birkenhead Sunday Association Football League round-up, 27 November 2022

The weather has once again took its toll on The Houlihan’s Birkenhead Sunday Association Football League with only three cup ties and two league games surviving the waterlogged pitches.

Queens Park‘s love affair with The Veronica Conway Premier Cup continues. They have won the trophy on 12 occasions and been in numerous semi-finals and have secured a place yet again in the semi-finals with a comfortable win over The Lukes 6-0 thanks to a brace from Levi Chiduka and singles from Jamie Leyland, Tom Black, Kian Hamm, and Callum Maddocks.

Luke Wynne helped himself to a fine hat-trick for Prenton FC in their 5-1 win at West Kirby United in The David Tacey Memorial Cup and make progress into the last 16. Jake Whittaker and Jay Beattie were also on the mark with James Shaw replying for West Kirby.

North Wirral Saints secured a place in the semi-finals of the Jimmy Core Memorial Cup after a 3-1 success over Parkgate St Germain (Matty Bolton). Finding the net for Saints were Tom Fleming, Callum Sait, and Frazer Lucking.

Woodchurch Hotel took advantage of their 3G pitch to move into third place and close the gap at the top of the Premier Division for the Ryan ‘Gigsy’ Atherton Memorial Trophy with a hard-fought 3 points over KRCT Bidston (Billy New) thanks to Jake Prescott, Jordan Deer and Michael Burkey registering a 3-1 win.

Division Three continues to deliver goals with Parkgate Panthers and Old Parks FC serving up a 10-goal feast to share the spoils and points. Panthers’ goals came from Jay Harvey, Alex Butterworth, Chris Bushell, Harrison Roberts and a penalty and Liam Peacock. On the scoresheet for Old Parks FC were Declan Wray with a double, and further singles from Jack Harrison, Karlin Fleckner, and Kev Walker.
