Houlihan’s Birkenhead Sunday Association Football League round-up, 21 August 2022

The top three in Division Two went goal crazy with the most notable being Prenton FC who hit Poulton Victoria S&S for seven without reply.

Luke Wynne started the ball rolling with a double added to singles from Lloyd Winkle, Liam Walsh, Callum Riley, Ryan Morris, and Jay Beattie.

Joining them at the helm are Whitby Rangers who demolished Victoria Colts 7-1 thanks to a Brad Bland hat trick and a brace each for Sam Cooper and Matty Vickers who also hit a double in midweek with a 4-0 success at AFC Park North.

New boys Sheridans kept Barkers Armchair firmly seated romping to an 8-0 win after Leon Jones bagged a five-goal haul. Leon Bower, Dylan Doyle, and Liam Whelan all chipped in with a goal to their names.

Leon Bower, and Leon Jones with a double, were also on the scoresheet in midweek with a 3-2 victory at Saughall FC. Sheridans came from behind after trailing 1-0.

Ameel Al Gamri and Dave McCoy were on target for Lions FC after inflicting a 2-0 defeat to Barcode FC.

Glenavon Athletic (Mike Roberts, Alex Weston (2), Nathan Patrick) claimed their first points of the season with a comfortable 4-1 score at last season’s Division Three runners-up AFC Park North who replied via James Smith.

Dock AFC aim to wrestle back the Ryan ‘Gigsy’ Atherton Premier Division Trophy from Rock Ferry Social after starting the season with a 100% record with all the other clubs having dropped points.

Ben Wood and Jamie Eaton found the net for Dock AFC against seasoned rivals Queens Park who replied through Harvey Sample. Adam Lea and a wonder goal from Levi Chiduka in midweek for Dock, sunk Corsair PV 2-0.

Premier Division Champions Rock Ferry Social started their defence of the title with a 2-2 draw over runners up Great Float Sports & Social and then followed it up with a 4-0 thumping of KRCT Bidston with the Rock’s efforts coming from Charlie Maccines, Chay Dysart, Liam Driscoll, and Connor Doyle.

Last season’s Cheshire Cup finalists Neston Nomads have recorded back-to-back wins 3-1 at KRCT Bidston during the week and 2-0 result with a double from Luke Blondel to stay on the heels of Cheshire Champions Dock AFC in second place.

Beechwood FC, who are just behind on goal difference, earned maximum points after a solitary effort from Fenton Cavanagh 1-0 over Lancelyn Glenavon, coupled with a share of the spoils 1-1 with Woodchurch Hotel (Stewy Jackson, Jonathan Roberts, Jamie Povall) who on Sunday accounted for Corsair PV (Kie Cartwright) 3-1.

JPL Jets, who were invited up into the Maxwell Barber’s Division One, have certainly fired themselves into pole position with three maximum points haul. The latter had Adam Larway finding the net on four occasions with Danny Williams also on the mark in a 5-1 romp at Wirral Radio who replied with a consolation goal from Suphot Thiamdong.

Rig Move FC made the right move to join The Houlihan’s Birkenhead Sunday Association Football League earlier in the summer and saw off highly fancied Cheshire Cheese 3-1 earlier in the week. On Sunday, they sailed to a 4-1 result at MSC Eastham (Jack Tidd) with strikes from Lee Youds, Ellis Williams, Josh Lyth and Luke Edwards.

Bushell Athletic, who narrowly missed out on promotion to The Premier Division on goal difference, have had a mixed set of results so far but a Farris Baker effort was enough to notch a first win of the new campaign at Cheshire Cheese 1-0.

New club Eastham Rangers Colts have registered two draws so far 1-1 with Bushell Athletic and shared the spoils with AFC Shaftes 2-2 (Kyle Platt, Dylan McColgan).

Among the early pacesetters in Division Three are Jimmy Core Cup winners Old Parks who have registered a 4-1 scoreline at Wirral Athletic (Harry Huggins). Ben Kierman, Adam Lamb, and Jake Walker netting for Old Parks.

Eastham Rangers, who have another team that has joined the league, are also unbeated thanks to a brace in midweek from Joe Skinner over AFC Tima and served up another strike over fellow newboys Athletic VH 1-0.

If you still do the pools it is worth backing AFC Rangers who recorded a third draw in as many games. Lewis McKnight was again on the scoresheet 1-1 at Oval FC (Loui Fox). AFC Rangers keeper Luke Roberts salvaged a point with an equalizer to make it 3-3 with at Athletic VH in midweek.

Higher Bebington Kelma made their debut in the league and the honours were shared with a keenly contested 2-2 draw playing hosta to North Wirral Saints (Jack Whitby, Frazer Lucking).

Parkgate Panthers have had a mixed start to their debut season seeing a 3-2 reversal on Sunday at AFC Tima (Mark Goodacre (2), Jacxk Grimes) but recorded a fine 3-1 win earlier in the week at Wirral Athletic (Harry Huggins). Netting for Panthers were Kai Everett, Alex Butterwoth (penalty), and Henry Hawkins.

The Houlihan’s Birkenhead Sunday Association Football League are now accepting applications for a proposed Youth Division for the season 2023/24 that is scheduled to start in August 2024, any Youth clubs that wish to enter two teams can do so, one team will be known as Youth U/18’s and a second team is normally known as a Colts U/17’s, please visit the League website for contact details.
