In a battling display in their home North West Counties First Division fixture versus high-riding Stockport Town Lairds deservedly took a point in a hard-fought encounter.
Lairds had much more of the first half and looked solid defensively and when Jay Harvey received the ball some 35 yards out he dispatched a superb lofted volley over the head of the Town keeper to provide a 1-0 lead after eleven minutes.
Chances then came and went despite hard work form Smith, Johnston, and Ludbrook and they went into the break with the one goal lead.
Town opened the second period in fine fashion and on 66minutes they equalised as Lairds failed to prevent a cross and Dan McLaughlin headed home unmarked.
Good work from Summers, Caswell, and O’Brien failed to produce the finishes required as the game swung both ways and the game finished in a 1-1 draw to keep both teams in the top six.
Lairds now travel away to Abbey Hey next Saturday who sit in fourth place just three points above them.
The reserves continued their great start in the West Cheshire League 3rd division away at Chester Nomads reserves as they eased into a two goal lead thanks to efforts from Adam Larway and regular scorer Kieran Hughes, but a late goal from the home team caused some concerned, but they retained the 2-1 score line to take all three points. They now have a free date next week.
