Leading UK Renewables training provider, Complete Training Solutions, recently made headlines after they launched a Green Energy Skills Bootcamp across the Liverpool City Region and now the provider is helping to close the region’s skills gap even further by adding technical qualifications for delegates that will help support the development of future wind farms.
The free industry training, launched in partnership with the Department for Education as part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee and Plan for Jobs, now includes a Global Wind Organisation Basic Technical Training (GWO BTT) qualification.
This entry level course enables delegates to perform basic hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical tasks in a wind turbine environment, under the supervision of an experience technician.
The GWO BTT standard has been developed in response to the demand for recognisable Basic Technical Training in the industry and was prepared in co-operation between the members of GWO to ensure accredited training for installation, servicing and maintenance of wind turbine generators and wind power plants.
The course grants access into a wind industry career and is designed to prepare learners for a guaranteed interview with a leading wind power employer, WindTex Engineering.
After 81 per cent of learners who took part in the first cohort of training successfully secured employment, Brad Hickman, Managing Director at Windtex Engineering Ltd said, “Recently we expanded our partnership with Complete Training Solutions to support with our business growth and recruitment needs. We interviewed 11 out of 12 of the delegates and we were really impressed with the calibre.
“We are pleased to have offered five people immediate roles with a further four on standby for our next suitable contract.”
The training is available to anyone over the age of 19, living in the Liverpool City Region and looking to start or progress in the offshore wind sector.
Upon completion, participants will be awarded two globally recognised qualifications from the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) and Industrial Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA). Learners will also gain access to sector-specific employability coaching from CTS’s sister company, Complete Skills Solutions (CSS).
The Basic Technical Training is ideal for those who have transferable skills and some knowledge of electrical systems to upskill and build a new career in the renewables industry with no limits.
Among the cohort on the latest Green Energy Skills Bootcamp was Dominick Lundon, who previously worked as an engineer in combined heat and power.
Dominick said, “The future prospects of green energy was the reason I attended the Green Energy Skills Bootcamp.
“I took part in the BTT training which entailed technical training regarding the maintenance of the generator and associated ancillary equipment within the turbine. It has helped me to understand both the safety and technical aspects required to work on a wind turbine.
“The course has definitely improved my confidence and the many different aspects about the wind industry are really interesting.”
Liverpool’s Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram recently gave his support to the initiative and attended a visit the state-of-the-art training facility.
