Grab a jab at the Wirral Deen Centre on Friday

NHS vaccinators will be at the Wirral Deen Centre in Birkenhead on Friday 9 December to offer first, second or booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to residents aged five and over, and the autumn booster for those eligible.

The Living Well team will offer the autumn booster to those who are eligible. You can find more details about this on the NHS website at: www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination

COVID-19 vaccines will also be available for anyone aged five and older who has not yet been vaccinated, or who has missed their second jab or first booster dose.

The Living Well bus will be parked at the Centre on Borough Road, Birkenhead, from 12-6pm and residents can walk straight in, with no appointments needed. Vaccines will be given inside the Centre.

The Wirral Deen Centre is an Islamic organisation which is open to everyone. The Centre provides a place of worship (mosque) and is also open for the whole community to use for communal activities.

Ibrahim Syed, Trustee and Community Leader at Wirral Deen Centre, said, “We are proud to be able to host a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the heart of our local community in Birkenhead.

“We particularly want people to know that all COVID-19 vaccines currently offered by the NHS are free from pork and all other animal products. Muslim jurists have said that the vaccines are permissible and suitable for a halal diet.”

Everyone who attends the clinic on Friday should be aware that the session will pause for prayers to take place at the mosque at 1pm for approximately half an hour.

He added, “It is not too late to start protecting yourself and others around you, so please join us on Friday 9 December and have your first, second or booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. We look forward to welcoming you to the Wirral Deen Centre.”

Dr Simon Delaney, Clinical Director for Wirral at NHS Cheshire and Merseyside said, “We’re pleased to offer this service in partnership with Wirral Deen Centre and the Living Well Bus, to enable residents in all communities to boost their immunity during winter.

“COVID-19 is still around and we would urge all Wirral residents to ensure that they make use of the essential protection the vaccines provide – whether that means getting the latest seasonal booster, or coming along to have your first dose.”

“Getting the vaccine is still the best way to protect yourself, your family and your community all year round.”

The Living Well bus, run by Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, is the first service of its kind in England, and travels to the heart of communities across Cheshire and Merseyside to ensure that people can access the COVID-19 vaccine.
