The free English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses are available to all Ukrainian adults and their family members supported through the UK government’s ‘Ukraine Family Scheme’ and the ‘Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme’.
The College’s ESOL programme helps adults improve all aspects of their language skills. Wirral Met’s experienced staff support students to improve their reading, writing and listening and gain a nationally recognised qualification.
Students on an ESOL programme also learn how to access travel, housing, healthcare and job market information, alongside tours and visits all over the Liverpool City Region.
In March, the College led a donation drive for much needed essentials for Ukraine. The ESOL department and Students’ Union led the campaign to collect items such as nappies, sanitary towels, first aid kits, hairbrushes, sleeping bags, clothing, toys, toothbrushes and more. The donations were dropped off in Poland, to help refugees and displaced families.
Sue Higginson, Principal of Wirral Met College, said, “Wirral Met College has a thriving ESOL department, which welcomes adults from all walks of life.
“Students on our ESOL programme improve their speaking, reading, writing and listening, but also develop important skills to help them settle into life in the UK.
“We are proud to support Ukraine during this difficult time and play a small part in helping Ukrainian refugees in our local community.”
