Did you know that Wirral has more than 50 electric vehicle charging points that are completely free of charge to use?
The charging points were installed around the borough last October to make it easier for owners of electric vehicles to stay charged, encourage people to explore a ‘greener’ way to travel and move away from petrol and diesel.
Electric vehicles help reduce carbon emissions and improve the air quality in Wirral.
The locations of the units were chosen based on a 2019 survey in which residents were asked where they would most like to see the charging points installed. They can be found at the following locations:
To find out more information, visit the Council’s webpage about on-street electric vehicle charging.
1. Electric vehicles are cheaper to run than petrol or diesel vehicles.
2. If you own a fully electric car, you don’t need to pay Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). Vehicle tax is based on emissions, which means for electric vehicles it is free.
3. There are far less maintenance costs for electric cars as there are fewer moving parts that need to be serviced. They don’t need oil or spark plug changes for example.
4. You can get up to 75% towards the cost of installing a charger at home through the electric vehicle (EV) chargepoint grant
5. Electric cars don’t drop in value as quickly as petrol or diesel cars.
