Tranmere hosted Leyton Orient this afternoon for a 3pm kick-off, in their latest fixture of the 2021/22 League 2 season.
Ahead of today’s game, manager Micky Mellon said, “I think that we’re just doing things better, more clinically. There’s not really much that’s dramatically changed much in way of principals, we started quite early in pre-season and probably the players are just playing better.
“They’re human beings, we have ups and downs in performance levels and I just think at the minute that they’re playing well like we need to do in order to get results and long may that continue.”

A scorcher of a goal from Jay Spearing secured Tranmere three points in their game against Leyton Orient this afternoon.
Rovers came out the more positive of the sides, at least for the first 20 minutes of the game. But, for the remainder of the half, they appeared to lose their sparkle.
Tranmere came close to scoring in the very first minute when Orient defender, Shadrach Ogie had to stretch full-length to clear the ball off the line.
Tranmere came out for the second half with more of a spring in their step and had clearly been given a team talk and a half during the interval.
Following their 4-0 thumping at Leyton Orient in the FA Cup at the beginning of December, the fans wanted to redress the balance.
At 58 minutes, Josh Hawkes was in control of the ball on the edge of the Orient box, but was crowded out from attempting a shot on goal. This left Jay Spearing able to find space and Hawkes placed the ball perfectly to him. Spearing fired a rocket shot firmly into the top right corner of Vigouroux’s goal, much to the delight of the home crowd.
When the referee’s final whistle blew after four minutes of nerve-wracking extra time, it was four league wins in a row for Rovers.
Today’s win means that Tranmere move up to 5th in the table and just a single point outside the automatic promotion spots.
Tranmere host Harrogate Town for a 7pm kick-off on Tuesday 21 December in the EFL Trophy and host Barrow on Sunday 26 December for a 3pm kick-off in their next League 2 fixture.
