Four Calday Grange Grammar students have received the prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarship.
The award is the most esteemed scholarship of its type in the UK and is aimed at those students wishing to pursue a career in engineering. Students are required to undertake a rigorous application process, an examination and an interview.
Successful scholars are sponsored by a commercial company, trade association, university, professional institution, armed service, government organisation, worshipful company, charitable trust or personal donor.
In 2021, 1297 students applied for the scholarship nationally and just 289 students received a scholarship. This is a fantastic achievement by the four students; Utkarsh Sharma, Edward Smith, Noel Philip and Mary Evans.
Students are matched with a mentor, gaining funding to support them through their A-Level studies, opportunities to work within their chosen career pathways and access to a host of other benefits.
The students this year are looking to continue developing their skills in their chosen areas. Noel is looking to pursue a career in aeronautical engineering. Mary is looking to pursue a career in Aerospace engineering with her sponsor Team Tempest. Edward is pursuing astronautical engineering with his sponsor the RAF Halton apprentices trust. Utkarsh is looking at pursuing quantum / electrical engineering.
