Four arrests following assault and robbery at Birkenhead bus station

Police have arrested four people following an assault and robbery in Birkenhead town centre on Wednesday, 1 May.

At 1pm, officers were called to Birkenhead Bus Station on Conway Street to reports of a man being assaulted with weapons, including a baseball bat.

The victim, an 18-year-old man, sustained injuries and reportedly had bank cards stolen from him. He was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries to his face and ribs.

Enquiries led to the following people being arrested:

An 18-year-old man from Oxton was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent.
A 33-year-old man from Moreton was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent and Possession of an offensive weapon.
A 33-year-old woman from Tranmere was arrested on suspicion of Robbery.
A 16-year-old girl from Tranmere was arrested on suspicion of Robbery.

All four have been conditionally bailed pending further enquiries.

Detective Inspector Andrew Schofield said, “We believe that this was a targeted attack which followed an earlier incident at Birkenhead Market.

“It will have been shocking to witness and I’d ask anyone who saw, heard or captured anything at either location on CCTV or other devices, please come forward.

“Although four people have been arrested, our investigation is in its early stages. Violence has no place in our communities and we will act on all information we receive to identify those involved.”
