A Wirral community interest company has raised £5000 by flipping two 100kg tyres 2.5 miles from Wallasey Town Hall to New Brighton on Sunday 13 August.
Kaizen Wirral Mindset CIC, a physical and mental health service for men based at the Wirral Wellness Centre on Price Street in Birkenhead, had initially hoped to raise £3000, but through a combination of donations on the day and online contributions, it has secured £5000.
The funds will go towards expanding access to the CIC itself and help it deliver subsidised mental health awareness coaching.
Darren Holmes, founder, and CEO of Kaizen Wirral Mindset CIC, said, “We’re blown away with the support we received.
“The fact that we managed to raise more than £500 just from people that met us on the route shows how our mission resonates with the general public. People are talking more about mental health now, but there’s still a huge amount to do.
“Men are less likely to open up and discuss how they’re feeling, and that reticence can have tragic consequences. One way to get through to people is to combine physical well-being with mental health awareness, which is what we’re doing at Kaizen.
“The tyre flip is all about letting people know we’re here on the Wirral, and raising money so that as many men as possible can benefit from the positive impacts of improving both physical and mental well-being.”
This is the second time the CIC has held the event, with the teams raising £5000 last year for various men’s and military veterans’ charities in the North West.
