Family thank Arrowe Park Hospital following death of Brookside actor Dean Sullivan

Actor Dean Sullivan, famous for portraying Jimmy Corkhill in Brookside, has died aged 68.

In a statement, Sullivan’s family with “deep sadness” said that the actor “passed away peacefully following a short illness”.

“Dean is best remembered as the longest-serving cast member of Channel 4’s groundbreaking Brookside playing the role of Jimmy Corkhill, making Dean a British soap icon.

“To millions he was and very much still is remembered as ‘Jimmy’, to family and friends he was ‘Dino’.”

“Dean’s family wants to thank Arrowe Park Hospital for their unwavering and consistent support.”

Sullivan was born in Liverpool on 7 June 1955. Attaining a B.Ed. (Hons) from Lancaster University, he spent six years as a primary school teacher prior to embarking on an acting career. Even during his acting journey, he continued as a substitute teacher until Brookside became his full-time occupation.

Joining Brookside in February 1986, he stayed with the show until its conclusion in November 2003, actively participating in numerous popular storylines. His portrayal of Jimmy earned him the British Soap Award for Outstanding Achievement in 2003.

In August 2023, Sullivan announced that he had been privately battling prostate cancer since 2018. Sullivan died on 29 November 2023.
