Heads & Tales : A social storytelling event – Vol IIII ‘WILD’

18 July @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Gather with us around the fire to share stories as our ancestors did. Tell a tale, share a memory, read a poem, tell a lie or simply listen

The first few Heads & Tales storytelling socials were so magical that we’re doing another!

The intention of this event is to use the medium of storytelling to help foster community and connection, to share the magic of storytelling and we want to hear your story!

The theme of the evening this time is WILD

We invite you to come and share a story based on this theme…

It could be an ancient story about distant wild lands;

it could be a story about your favourite wild place,

it could be a story you have made up,

it could be a story about your connection to wildness, your wild nature,

a story you like,

a short passage from a book,

a poem,

a song,

an article about your favorite wild animal,

ANYTHING that you’d like to share that speaks to the theme of WILD .

We’ll gather on the beach and share our stories around the fire. Anyone who wishes to share can do so, but there is no pressure – everyone is welcome! There will be time after the storytelling to chat/ mingle / continue any conversations, to take a dip in the water, to dance, to do whatever you please!

The sharing will begin with a short drum journey and some meditation/embodiment practices to help us arrive gently into our bodies and open the story sharing from a place of groundedness .

Humans have been telling stories around the fire since the dawn of time and something magical happens when we gather to share and to listen to each other. Storytelling can be a vehicle into deeper understanding, of ourselves and of others; and is a powerful tool for self reflection. It allows us to explore thoughts, feelings, emotions and ideas that we might otherwise find too difficult to speak about in a more metaphorical way, and we can learn a lot about ourselves through the symbols we connect to in a story, they are an amazing tool for self-reflection.

Gathering in a circle and feeling safe to share, feeling listened to, AND deeply listening to others is an essential and powerfully cathartic experience. It’s the simplest thing, to speak, to be heard, to be seen, to listen.

We hope the story sharing will spark interesting, fun, deep, creative conversations, and we believe that meeting around the fire will fan the flames of some wonderful new connections.

Warm clothing is advised as we will be outside, and whilst the fire will be heating us any extra blankets/layers are always good to have.

This event is donation based/pay what you can to make it as inclusive as possible. We will meet by the pirate ship on New Brighton beach and light the fire in ceremony together, there is a ramp down to the beach that we recommend for access marked as #2 on the map below.

See you fireside!
