Edith Smith: Pioneer Policewoman

9 April @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Learn about the Birkenhead woman who became Britain’s first warranted female police officer.

Early in the 20th Century, the role of women in society was extremely restricted. There were many heroes challenging this and Edith Smith was one of them.

Edith was a woman of many talents, but her name went down in history as the first warranted woman police officer in Britain. 108 years later, this Birkenhead woman had largely been forgotten on the Wirral.

Now her fascinating story is a source of inspiration, particularly to today’s women officers
