End-to-end tussle ends in 0-0 draw for Lairds

A free-flowing and end-to-end tussle in the North West Counties First Division South saw Lairds earn a creditable draw away at Abbey Hey.

Having better possession in the first half and relying on the aerial threat of Jay Harvey, combined with the work rate of Mike Speed and Nathan Johnston Lairds could have gone in front.

Harvey’s header onto the bar should have been into the net and the home side survived some scary moments, whilst always looking dangerous on the break, but Lairds’ defence repelled the dangers with Dom Hoppe outstanding. Half time 0-0.

The same sort of play in the second period, but with the home team looking more dangerous as Will Ebbrell made two excellent saves and watched a couple of efforts fly past his uprights.

Neither side could convert any openings produced, which included late chances Lairds squandered due to hesitancy and the game ended 0-0.

Lairds remain in the top seven and unbeaten in their last three fixtures which were all against teams above them.

They take on Abbey Hey away again on Tuesday in the First Division Challenge cup with a 7.45pm kick off.

That is followed by yet another away league game versus Abbey Hulton United on Saturday 16 September with a 3.00pm kick off.
