Elderly woman threatened by burglars in Birkenhead

Merseyside Police is appealing for information following a confrontational burglary at the home of an elderly woman in Birkenhead.

At around 1.30am on Monday 17 April, the pensioner woke to the sound of two males searching the downstairs of her house on Tollemache Road after they had broken in.

The males threatened the victim and told her to give them all the cash she kept in the house.

While the two males went upstairs, she managed to flee the property and called the police.

It is believed that they stole cash, jewellery and watches.

The woman was not injured but left shaken by her ordeal.

Detective Inspector Kevin O’Rourke said, “To break into the home of an elderly woman and threaten her is appalling and we are determined to find the two cowardly males involved.

“Thankfully the woman was not hurt, but this must have been a shock for her to be woken in her own home in such a way.

“I would appeal to anyone who lives in the area around Tollemache Road to check their CCTV to see if they captured anything suspicious on 17th April in the early hours of the morning.

“If you have any information, please get in touch as it may help our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 23000322465.
