Elderly pedestrian seriously injured in Bebington collision

Merseyside Police has launched an investigation following a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian in Wirral on Monday, 4 March.

Police were contacted at 7.40pm following reports that a car being driven at the junction of Teehey Lane and Roland Avenue in Bebington had been in collision with an elderly pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a man in his 80s, suffered a serious head injury and has been taken to hospital.

The driver of the car reportedly left the scene immediately following the collision before returning a short time later.

The car believed to have been involved in the collision, a dark-coloured BMW, was later recovered from the area of Sandymount Drive in Bebington.

An investigation is underway and CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out in the local area. There are currently road closures to allow investigation work to be carried out.

Matrix Roads Policing Inspector Phil McManus said, “We would like to trace anyone who was travelling along Teehey Lane at around 7.40pm who saw the collision or has any information about the movements of the car immediately before or afterwards.

“We would also ask any taxi or delivery drivers who were in the area of Teehey Lane or Sandymount Drive to check their dashcam to see if they captured anything significant.”
