Drug driver arrested after collision that left two men with serious injuries

Merseyside Police has arrested a man following a road traffic collision in Liverpool last night (Friday 15 July) that has left two men with serious injuries.

Police were contacted just after 11.15pm following reports that a black Audi A1 and a black taxi were involved in a collision on Upper Parliament Street.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended and safely removed a passenger from the taxi who was taken to hospital with a serious head injury.

A 21-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving and was also taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the taxi sustained minor injuries and was treated by paramedics at the scene. 

Road closures were in place on Hope Street, Upper Parliament Street and James Street whilst emergency services were at the scene and have since been reopened.

An investigation has been launched and CCTV and witness enquiries into the incident are ongoing. 

Chief Inspector Chris Ruane said, “Although an arrest was made just after the collision we are still appealing to anyone who saw the incident to contact police.

“If you were passing or driving by and may have captured any dashcam footage please come forward so we can understand the circumstances of what took place.”
