Date announced for 2024 Wirral History Fair

The Wirral History and Heritage Association (WH&HA) has been selected as a finalist in this year’s Liverpool City Region Culture and Creativity Awards.

The WH&HA is one of six finalists in the People’s Choice Award for Outstanding Contribution to Culture, the only category voted for by the public.

The WH&HA is a voluntary organisation, open to any individual or group interested in the history and heritage of Wirral. Set up in 2009, it aims to promote and encourage an awareness and enjoyment of the peninsula’s unique past.

Paul Smith of the WH&HA said,  “We are honoured to be nominated for an award and bowled over to reach the final to represent the Wirral region. You can read more about the awards and vote online at  public voting closes on 9 February 2024.”

The Association stages an annual free History Fair each March, the biggest history fair in the North West region. In addition it orchestrates a programme of Heritage Open Days, each September, in conjunction with the national scheme sponsored by the National Trust ensuring free entrance to the public to historic sites and events on the Wirral peninsula.

A panel of judges, including experts in the field of arts, science and culture whittled the 600 nominations for the awards down and announced the shortlist in December. There are 47 finalists chosen for 15 award categories and. the winners are announced in March 2024.

Wirral History Fair 2024

The date for the next Wirral History Fair will be Saturday, 23 March 2024,  at Hulme Hall, Port Sunlight. 

Paul Smith, Chair of WH&HA, said,  “Last year’s fair was the biggest local heritage event to date with record numbers of participants gathering for one day of history, heritage, family trees, archaeology and fascinating memorabilia.

“A full list of exhibitors will be available online at  before the event and any local organisations who would like to book a space should contact us via the website as soon as possible as places go fast.” 

The Wirral History Fair is supported by the Wirral Borough Council and there will be well over 90 stalls.
