Crawley snatch win over Tranmere

Tranmere visited Crawley Town this afternoon in their latest game of the League 2 season.

Ahead of the game and with the side desperate to get back to winning ways, Nigel Adkins said, “First and foremost, know yourself. Then, establish how our identity can impact the opposition.

“Crawley have massive threats. They’re very good at what they do, they have been for a long time, and they’re very successful with it. We’ve got to come up with solutions and deal with that, but flip it, what can we do when we’ve got the ball.”

Tranmere Rovers suffered a last-minute 3-2 defeat to Crawley Town on Saturday afternoon.

Acting manager Nigel Adkins made several changes in first Rovers lineup. Connor Wood made his debut for Tranmere, and Reece McAlear, Brad Walker, Josh Hawkes, and Charlie Jolley all re-entered the starting eleven.

The game’s first significant opportunity came four minutes in, when McAlear made space in the box, delivering a pass to Connor Jennings. Unfortunately, Jennings’ shot went over the crossbar.

On the 22-minute mark, Tranmere opened the scoring as Sam Taylor set up Jolley for a clear shot at the Crawley goal. The striker exhibited composure, elegantly placing the ball into the net.

Adkins’ team encountered some pressure from the hosts as the first half unfolded, but they managed to maintain the one-goal advantage going into half time.

Crawley managed to equalize on 61 minutes, with Ronan Darcy creating space and bringing the hosts level.

After a brief interruption in the match due to bottles and flares being thrown onto the pitch, Taylor restored Rovers’ lead from a superb pass from Walker.

However, Crawley swiftly equalized as Nick Tsaroulla found the back of the net.

As the game continued, both teams sought to alter their fortunes with multiple substitutions, but they remained evenly matched.

In the dying moments of added time, Crawley secured a dramatic victory courtesy of substitute Lolos, claiming all three points.

Tranmere host Accrington Stanley on Saturday 23 September for their next game of the 2023/24 League Two season.
