COVID-19: Days from easing of lockdown, infection rate falls again

Latest figures show that Wirral’s COVID-19 infection rate has dropped to 19.4 per 100,000 from 24.1 per 100,000 during the previous week, but with increases in six of Wirral’s 22 wards. The local infection rate is well below the national average of 37.6 per 100,000.

Current figures, for the week ending 2 April 2021, show a drop in 12 of 22 Wirral wards, with four wards seeing the infection rate stay the same, whilst it increased in six wards. However, with the numbers now being so low, even slight variations can mean that figures will show a marked increase or decrease in the infection rate.

There were 63 new cases of COVID-19 (Pillar 1 & 2), down from 78 new cases during the previous week, bringing the total number of cases in Wirral to 24,262 since the pandemic began.

Mass vaccination centres for Cheshire and Merseyside are located at Chester Racecourse and St Helens.  You do not have to take up this offer if you don’t want to – your local GP-led service will be in touch to invite you to a local vaccination centre if you don’t respond.

Hospital vaccinations – A hospital vaccination hub is also in place at Clatterbridge Hospital.  The hospital site is predominantly aimed at vaccinating frontline staff and staff in patient-facing roles across the wider health and social care workforce.
