Council announces how and when £150 energy rebate payments will be processed

Wirral Council has set out how and when the £150 energy rebate payment will be provided to eligible council tax payers.

Eligible residents who have been paying their council tax via direct debit since before this month will receive the payment directly into their bank account. This process is starting this week.

For those householders who have only recently set up a direct debit, a payment will have needed to have been received and cleared before the £150 will be provided, which will be in June. For some, however, depending on the date of their first direct debit payment, they may be invited to apply online for the rebate .

Similarly, if the bank account details do not match the details we have for the Council Tax bill payer, these people may need to follow the non-direct debit process. They will be contacted by the council, if this is the case.

For others who do not pay Council Tax by direct debit, they will be contacted by the council to invite them to apply. They will have the option for a payment to be made direct to a bank account or through a credit to their Council Tax bill.

The council says it aims to contact all non-direct debit payers during May, with payment being made in June.

If your property is not eligible for the £150 rebate because it is in council tax band E to H, there may be help available through a discretionary fund. More information will be available in the coming weeks.

Wirral Council will NOT be contacting anyone by phone to request bank details.

More details can be found on the Wirral Council website
