Continued appeal by detectives investigating the murder of Leroy Venner

Detectives investigating the murder of Leroy Venner in Anfield in July are continuing to appeal for information.

At around 3pm on Wednesday 27 July, police were called to a house on Belmont Drive following a report that Mr Venner had been found with head injuries.

Emergency services attended and he was taken to hospital where he sadly passed away.

His next of kin were informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. A Home Office post-mortem took and confirmed the cause of his death as head injuries.

Two men, aged 60 and 43, arrested on suspicion of murder, were questioned by police and have now been bailed with conditions.

Detective Chief Inspector Judith Blease said, “Our extensive enquiries continue into the tragic death of Leroy Venner and two men have been arrested and remain on conditional bail, but we are still looking for as much information as possible.

“I’d like to use this opportunity to continue to ask for any motorists who were driving on Belmont Road and Rocky Lane, between 11am and 3pm on the day in question to check their dashcams. This is either direction to the junction of Sheil Road and Orphan Drive, and what may not appear significant or suspicious could be pivotal, so pass it on and we will make the assessment.

“Likewise, if you hold any information on the murder of Leroy, come forward as soon as possible. Whether you come forward to us directly or anonymously, through Crimestoppers, please get in touch. All information you hold could be vital to our enquiries to help us remove the person responsible from our streets.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has information which could help police with their inquiries, is asked to DM @MerPolCC, message ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre on Facebook’ or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 with reference 22000541869.

You can also pass information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Alternatively, you can report via their online form at:
