Summer 2023 is set to be a pivotal moment in Wirral’s hugely ambitious regeneration programme and the next few months will give the people of the borough a unique chance to have their say on the next steps.
Two new consultations have recently launched, and residents are being encouraged to have their say on the proposals.
Scott’s Quay
Situated next to the Wirral Waters site, this proposal would see new a high-density mixed-use sustainable living area, maximising the potential of its setting by combining existing and new homes to create a thriving waterside community.
The area has great potential with excellent transport links and a prominent location next to the River Mersey. The site is only 1.5 miles from Birkenhead Town Centre and neighbours the Twelve Quays Ferry Terminal and the Wirral Waters development.
The proposed development aims to create new residential developments including affordable housing and retirement properties, as well as housing for young professionals and forms a crucial part in the Birkenhead 2040 Framework.
This consultation is open until September 13 2023.
Northside
The aim of the development is to create attractive, safe, welcoming and sustainable workplaces that relate well to their surroundings.
The area is between the Dock Road and the Kingsway Tunnel approach, which benefits from direct access to the M53 Motorway. It is an existing area of employment uses, some of which are underutilised. Northside falls within the Liverpool City Region Freeport area, which provides a number of incentives to encourage new development and job creation.
Part of the proposal for this area would see support for the relocation of industrial uses from other neighbourhoods across the urban area and support the wider regeneration of Birkenhead by ensuring that businesses are, where possible, not displaced.
