Chester and Wirral Football League round up, 9 December 2023

In another fixture list marred by relentless rainfall, CWFL Dee 106.3 League Cup quarter-final action survived, with Sutton Rangers and Moreton FC clinching semi-final berths by causing upsets against high-flying opponents.

Sutton’s Alex Morgan and Joe Dowthwaite negated goals from Hoole Rangers‘ Victor Arogundade and Jack Sterling, resulting in the 90 minutes ending in a 2-2 draw. The dreaded penalties saw Sutton secure a brilliant result and progress to the semi-final.

Meanwhile, Moreton FC secured their semi-final spot after facing FC Farndon. Gabe Bratu cancelled out a Matty Sheridan effort, concluding the match in a 1-1 deadlock after 90 minutes. Moreton then kept their composure, emerging victorious with a 5-4 win on penalties.

Congratulations to both Sutton Rangers and Moreton FC on brilliant wins.

In the Northern Cup second round, Higher Bebington Kelma Vets proved that age is only a number as goals from Ben McWah, John Walker, and Mark Jones propelled Kelma into the next round as they defeated open-age side Newton-Le-Willows 3-2.
