The Life Members Cup quarter finals took centre stage last Wednesday, and it was Premier Division champions Blacon Reserves who welcomed Hooton Vets to Cairns Crescent in what turned out to be a cracker.
Paul Dulson gave Hooton the lead just before half time when he headed home from close range before Danny Davies levelled matters early in the second half for Blacon.
Aaron Rowland then headed Blacon into the lead before Captain Robbie Joinson fired in the third from a free kick. Hooton Vets pulled one back via a Dave Rudge effort to make it 3-2 before Chay Dysart headed in a dramatic equalizer to send the game to penalties and it was Blacon who kept their nerve, winning 4-2.
Bernie Holmes (CWFL Press Officer) and Paul Graham (CWFL Secretary) then presented Blacon Captain Robbie Joinson with the Queensferry Sports Premier Division Trophy as Blacon celebrated their recent league title win. Congratulations to Aaron Price and his team.
Black Horse ended Ellesmere Port Town Vets’ run in the Cup with a 3-0 victory thanks to goals from Matt Holt, Matt Kehoe, and Mike Burrows whilst Cestrian Alex also won by the same scoreline against Ellesmere Port Red Lions Vets. Chris Rowntree, Ashley Reed, and Adie Groves got the all-important goals for Cestrian.
FC Farndon had a fantastic 4-1 win against Hoole Rangers to complete the quarter finals. Dan Wagstaff bagged a brace with Lee Parry and Sam Davenport grabbed singles.
The draw for the Quarter Finals took place last Thursday at the CWFL Committee meeting with FC Farndon drawing Black Horse with the game to be played on Thursday 18 May and Cestrian Alex drew Blacon Reserves with the game to be played on Friday 19 May in what looks like two interesting games. In the Olympic Trophies
Championship FC Farndon completed their league programme remaining unbeaten, as they defeated Chester Nomads IV 4-2. Lee Parry, Sam Davenport, James Lloyd, and Leo Davenport all scored for Farndon.
In the Tarvin Precision Vets Division 2, FC Farndon Vets had Lewis Norman on target with a brace and Roy Cardus with a single as they defeated Birkenhead Vets 3-1.
In the Tarvin Precision Vets Division 4, Parkfield Vets secured the title with a 4-0 win against Rake & Pikel Vets as Kev Pink, Steve Mole, Tony Mitchell, and Ian Mitchell were all on target.
Crossway Vets had Phil Radcliffe netting a double and Chris Mackin a single but went down by the odd goal in seven against FC Vaults Vets and Hoole Rangers Vets had a four-goal hero in Dan Eborall as Rich Whincup, Ste Owen, Ash Hughes, and Adam Roper all got in on the act.
This coming Saturday 13 May sees the first of two finals being played at Cammell Lairds. In the Cayzer Shield, Shaftesbury Youth take on Waggon & Horses for a 12pm kick off and in the League Cup Blacon Reserves will play Black Horse with a kick off time of 3pm.
