Chester and Wirral Football League round up, 4 March 2023

FC Farndon clinched the CWFL Olympic Trophies Championship league title on Saturday with an impressive 5-3 victory over rivals Newton Athletic Reserves.

Ace marksman, Lee Parry, hit a double and Sam Davenport, Tom Perrin, and Captain Ben Parry, all grabbed singles for Farndon who have won the title with three games to spare, whilst also remaining unbeaten.

Louie Larson, Adam Pownall, and Danny Eaton replied for Newton Athletic.

At the other end of the table, Orange Athletic grabbed their second win of the season to lift themselves off bottom spot as they defeated Hoole Rovers 3-1, thanks to goals from Arron Stockton, Iain Thomas, and Graeme Francis. It’s been a brilliant turnaround for Orange and a special mention must go to Roger London and his team for sticking together and working through a very testing start to the season.

In the CWFL Queensferry Sports Premier Division, Blacon Youth Club Reserves kept their slim title hopes alive with a 3-0 win against Christleton. Goals from Jack Rowlands, Aaron Rowlands, and Aaron Hinchcliffe sealed the points which gives Blacon a three-point lead over Shaftsbury Youth, but having played three games more, the title is still firmly in Shaftes’ hands.

Goals from Connor Howley and Josh Leach gave Hoole Rangers a 2-1 win at Waggon & Horses, whose consolation came from Kieron Ball.

In the CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division 1, Neil Atkinson and Chris Dawson both netted to secure West Kirby Vets‘ first point of the season against in-form Higher Bebington Kelma Vets, who replied with goals from Johnny Sumner and John Walker.

Friday night’s Doug Johnson Vets Cup first round saw Mersey Royal and Hooton Vets play out another exciting 3-3 draw after 90 minutes. Robbo Courtenay, Kris Hesketh, and Will Bulpin were on target for the Royal but Hooton replied with strikes from JP Stanhope and Dave Rudge and an own goal took the tie to penalties, and it was Hooton who prevailed winning 7-6 in the shootout.

Shaftsbury Vets had a fine 4-1 win against local rivals Great Float Vets. Jay Williamson bagged a double whilst Iggy McGraa and Eddie Jebb both netted singles to see Shaftes through to the next round. Michael Friel scored Float’s Consolation goal.

Joe Crane scored a fine hat-trick and Todd Reid hit a brace for Ellesmere Port Town Vets as they dispatched Tarvin Vets 5-2. Sam Kilner and Kev Rogerson were on target for Tarvin Vets.

In the CDFA Pele Vets Cup, Warren Kelly and Jim Lehman were hat-trick heroes whilst singles for Jake Gibbons and Nick Whittaker gave Lache Vets an 8-1 win against Chester Nomads Reserves who had Steve Davies on target with Nomads’ consolation goal.

Mike Ashford helped himself to five goals as Upton Youth Vets hammered Nags Head Vets 9-0, with Danny Stevenson also grabbing a double plus Nags Head putting through their own net twice.

FC Farndon Vets topped off a fine day for the Farndon community as they dumped Crossway Vets out of the cup with a 4-0 win. Ray Cardus, Derek Nurse, Gary Richards, and Ben Pridding all scored for Farndon.

Ashton Vets also progressed at the expense of Upton JFC Vets winning 4-2. Tom Harrison bagged a hat- trick and Luca Trasatti also scored and Ben Whalley and Ryan March got Upton’s goals.
