The last of the midweek games in the CWFL Olympic Trophies Championship were played last Wednesday and again there was no shortage of goals.
Upton JFC Youth stormed into a two-goal lead but Newton Athletic 2nd, inspired by Man of the match Zac Packer, hit back to take all three points after a Sam Morgan brace plus a single from Dan Christian gave them a 3-2 victory in a result which puts Newton top on goal difference.
Man of the match Lee Parry netted a fine hat trick and Alex Sheriff also got on the score sheet as FC Farndon beat Great Sutton 4-2 (Danny Lewis and Terry Watts) in a result which gives Farndon three wins from three.
Port Sunlight Nomads defeated Cestrian Alex 1st 2-1 with Sunlight’s goals coming from Lewis Griffin and Harley Price, with Cestrian’s goals coming from Elliot Davies.
Hoole Rovers had a fine 2-1 victory away at Chester Nomads 4th, with Hoole’s goals coming from Ryan Robinson and Drew Pratt with Andy Caldwell replying for Chester Nomads.
On Friday night in the CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division 1, titleholders Mersey Royal hosted Great Float Vets at Vauxhalls astro pitch. Pre-season rumours that Royal may fold were well and truly put to rest as Royal hit six, with Chris McGinn (2), Danny Edwards, Andy Appleton, Robo Courtenay, and Kris Hesketh all on target for Royal. Great Float’s goal came from Anthony Cotgrave.
Shaftsbury Youth Vets got off to a fine start as Eddie Jebb carried his great form into the Vets league with a brace against Capenhurst Vets.
Saturday in the CWFL Queensferry Sports Premier Division saw early leaders Christleton FC hammered 4-1 away at Blacon Youth Reserves, with Christleton’s goal coming from Dan Ward via the penalty spot.
Unpredictable Black Horse’s crazy start to the season continued, this time drawing 4-4 away at Neston Nomads. On the score sheet for Black Horse were Matt Kehoe (2) and singles for both Sam Parker and Aaron Woods. Replying for Neston where Cole Saunders with a brace, whilst Luke Hall and Max Donnally both hit singles.
A Billy Mcgee double plus goals from James Bignall, Connor Roberts, and Anthony Murphy sent Lockdown FC to third in the league as they defeated Runcorn Sports 3rds 5-2.
Hoole Rangers 1st’s took advantage of Christletons defeat by winning 2-0 at home to Groves Athletic. Josh Leach put Hoole one up before Eroms Amros netted on his last appearance for the club whilst Joe Stacey in the Hoole goal earned Man of the match as he made a brilliant penalty save with 10 minutes to go to keep a clean sheet.
Waggon and Horses ran out 4-2 winners against Helsby 3rds with doubles for both Billy Fennall and Dylan Owens to move up to fourth.
In the CWFL Olympic Trophies Championship FC Farndon’s brilliant start to the season continued as they made it four wins from four with a 4-2 away victory at Hoole Rovers 1sts, courtesy of a hat trick from Lee Parry and a single from Man of the Match Owen McGrath.
In the CWFL Precision Vets Division 1, Hooton Vets hit six without reply against Higher Bebington Kelma. Scoring for The Hoot were Dave Rudge, Lias Black, and Kieron Fleetwood all with doubles.
In the CWFL Precision Vets Division 2, a superb hat-trick from Victor Thurgill got Birkenhead FC off to a flyer as they defeated Ellesmere Port Red Lions 3-1 away.
Queens Park Vets travelled to Lache Vets and came away with a 4-1 win thanks to a Mikey Mcgree double plus strikes from Dotty Bolton and Mike Burkey. Another opening day hat-trick by Phillip Reeves gave FC Farndon Vets all three points with victory over Tarvin Vets.
