Shaftsbury Youth Club, who finished runners-up in seasons 2019-20 and 2020-21, will never have a better opportunity to finally get their hands on the CWFL Queensferry Sports Premier Division trophy.
On Saturday, Shaftes travelled to league leaders Lockdown FC and secured a fine 3-1 victory thanks to goals from Eddie Jebb, Ian McGraa, and Finlay Onwuemene. A result which sees Shaftes take over at the top on goal difference with two games in hand over second-placed Blacon Youth Reserves. The evergreen Billy McGee scored Lockdown’s consolation.
Christleton and Hoole Rangers shared the points in an exciting game (pictured). Zaac Hall and Matt Jones were on target to give Christleton a 2-0 half time lead, but Hoole battled back and midway into the second half. A Kyle Stoddart goal gave them hope before Josh Leach popped up in injury time to score a dramatic equalizer.
In the CWFL Olympic Trophies Championship, FC Farndon’s relentless pursuit of title glory continued as they ruthlessly dispatched of Hoole Rovers 9-0. Lee Parry continued his fine form to net an impressive six-goal haul, whilst Sam Davenport also netted, with the other two coming via own goals.
Cestrian Alex put a severe dent into Newton Athletics Reserves’ own title ambitions as they ran out 2-1 winners. Ashley Reed and Nial Peaker did the damage for Cestrian as Danny Mongan replied for Newton Athletic.
A Lewis Coney goal was not enough for Orange Athletic, as their recent good form was ended by Chester Nomads IV who had a two-goal hero in Osian Jones, whilst James Lloyd and Leo Massey also got in on the act.
Danny Carr was named Man of the Match after he bagged a fine hat-trick to help Sutton Rangers to a 6- 0 win against Port Sunlight Nomads; Joe Dowthwaite also netted a brace and Daniel Lewis a single.
In the CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division 3, Neston Nomads Vets, with strikes from Jim Thompson and Andy Thorpe, made it eight wins from eight with a narrow 2-1 victory against Chester Nomads Vets, who replied with a goal from Hamish McCuachie.
Johnny Stubbs netted for Nags Head Vets as they drew 1-1 with Hartford Vets.
In the CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division 4, Upton JFC Vets had Stuart Cossins in fine form as he bagged a hat-trick, Phil Cordell notched twice, and Michael Carroll also got one to see Upton run out 6-2 winners against FC Vaults Vets, whose consolation goals came from Alan Teece and Jonathan Evans.
Rake & Pikel played out a 3-3 thriller against Crossway Vets; Russ Morgan bagged a brace and Pete Wheeler a single for Pikel whilst Lee Coombes, Andrew Thomas, and Phil Goss netted for Crossway Vets.
Dee Rangers Vets defeated MSB Woolton 2-0 thanks to goals from Richard Dalton and Carl Fowlie.
