Chester and Wirral Football League round up, 23 April 2022

Hooton lifted the Wirral Amateur Cup on Easter Monday when they defeated West Cheshire Division 2 side Heswall Reserves 2-1, with Hoot’s goals coming from Richie Frieghtman and Joel Whalley. It was a great weekend for Hooton FC with the Amateur Cup trophy going alongside the Wirral Junior Cup that Hooton Vets won on Easter Friday.

Midweek Cup action in the CWFL Dee 106.3 League Cup semi-finals saw Shaftsbury and Unitor progress through to the final. Shaftsbury and Christleton finishing 2-2 after 90 minutes meant the dreaded penalties would decide the tie. It was Shaftes who held their nerve to win 5-4. Meanwhile, Unitor progress to the final was easier as a Hattrick from Danny Whitehead plus goals from John Means and a free kick from Derek Taylor sent Unitor through to their second final.

In the CWFL Queensferry Sports Premier Division, Unitor moved back to the top with another high scoring win, this time gaining revenge on Neston Nomads who had beaten Unitor earlier on in the season. There was no repeat this time, as a brace from Danny Whitehead plus singles from John Mearns, Leon Clarke and another free kick from Derek Taylor saw Unitor move four points clear with four games in hand.

Shaftsbury’s could not take their cup form into the league as they fell to a 3-2 defeat against Hoole Rangers, as goals from Ryan Primrose, Connor Howley plus an own goal gave Hoole the points with Lee Griffiths and Paul Kane replying for Shaftes.

Hooton suffered cup winner’s hangover as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Waggon and Horses with the all-important goal coming from Chris Varney. Bottom club, Cestrian Alex (Arnie Djedje) lost 3-1 against Upton JFC with Sam Ismay bagging a hattrick for Upton. Meanwhile, Black Horse and Higher Bebington Kelma played out a 0-0 draw.

In the CWFL DFA Vets Challenge Cup semi final, Nags Head Bunbury beat Ashton Vets 2-1 with goals from Jonny Stubbs and Henry Buckley with Matt Edwards replying for Ashton.

In the CWFL Olympic Trophies Championship, two goals from Dan Lewis were not enough for Great Sutton FC as they lost 4-2 against Winsford Saxons.

In the CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division 1, Higher Bebington Kelma Vets beat Neston Nomads 5-1, with Kelma’s goals coming from Steve Forster 2, Greg Bearsley, Ged Mceah and an own goal.

In the CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division 2, Tarvin Athletic hit seven past Dee Rangers without reply whilst Winsford Diamonds hit beat Frodsham Vets 4-0 with Liam Goulding grabbing 2, plus strikes from Matty Walmsley and Michael Warbuton.

In the CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division 3, West Kirby Vets went goal crazy as Neil Atkinson hit a treble, David McDermott with a brace plus singles from Paul Bainbridge, Paul Johnson, Martyn Kent, and Paul Rowlands. West Kirby jump above Queens into second. Phil Radcliffe scored for Crossway.

In the CWFL Friday Night Warrington 11’s, Shoreham Sabres played out a 2-2 draw with Forest FC, with Shoreham’s goals coming from Louis Jameson and Morgan Naylor.
