On Friday night in the CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division 1, Hooton Vets played out another stalemate against Shaftsbury Vets, as they drew 0-0 in a result which sees Hooton go six points clear of nearest rivals Higher Bebington Vets, but also hands the initiative to Mersey Royal Vets who on Saturday moved menacingly into third position as they beat West Kirby Vets 3.
A great run and finish from Kris Hesketh gave Royal the lead before Carrington’s glorious pass was finished off by Andy Robinson to make it two, Robbo Courtenay sealed the win after great work by Robinson as Royal moved eight points behind Hooton but with four games in hand.
A Carl Murphy strike was not enough for Great Float Vets as Capenhurst Vets netted through Mark Ryan and Mark Higman to take the points.
Higher Bebington Kelma Vets won by the odd goal in five against Ashton vets as Ben Mcwah bagged his first ever hat-trick, with Matt Edwards netting a brace for Ashton.
In the CWFL Tarin Precision Vets Division 2, league leaders Queens Park Vets dropped their first points of the season against Upton Vets, Goals from Mike Ashford and Jamie Hughes gave Upton a deserved lead and it looked like staying that way as they battled brilliantly to shut out Queens. With 15 minutes left continued Queens pressure finally told as Tony Sample netted from close range to give Queens hope and with time running out a pinpoint cross from Nick Scholes enabled Mikey Mcgree to net a dramatic equalizer to see Queens stay unbeaten.
A spirited Farndon Vets, who netted with goals from Derek Nurse and Phil Reeves, fell just short against Ellesmere Port Town Vets who scored three to take the points with strikes from Gareth Lupton, Mark Thompson and Todd Reid.
In the CWFL League cup second round, a Josh Camy double plus a single from Ben Hardman was not enough as Upton JFC also bagged three to take a dramatic game to penalties with Cestrian holding their nerve to triumph 5-4 to go through to the next round.
In the CWFL Olympic Trophies Championship, singles from Davies, Carr and Lindsay were enough as Sutton Rangers won by the odd goal in five against Hoole Rovers.
