CCTV appeal following city centre assault

Detectives continuing to investigate an assault in Liverpool city centre have issued CCTV of a man detectives believe may have information that could assist their enquiries.

At 1.50am on 2 April, it was reported that a man approached the victim, a 35-year-old man, and punched him once, knocking him to the floor.

It is believed he had followed the victim from Rubber Soul bar on Mathew Street to Rainford Square, outside Hardy’s, where the assault happened.

The victim was treated in hospital for a serious neck injury. He is recovering at home but requires ongoing treatment.

Merseyside Police is appealing for help to identify the man pictured, who may be able to assist the investigation.

Detective Inspector Neil Dillon said, “This was a shocking and unprovoked attack on a man on a night out who was visiting Liverpool, and had every right to go out and enjoy an evening without being subjected to this attack.

“We have now issued moving footage of a man as we believe he could have information that may prove vital to our enquiries. We believe the man may be from outside the Merseyside area.

“If you recognise this man, or witnessed any part of the incident, then do let us know as any information you hold could prove vital in our efforts to bring those responsible to justice.”

If you recognise the man or have any information on this incident, please contact @MerPolCC, 101 quoting reference 22000226145. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their online form at: https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information/give-information-online/
