Cammell Laird in 5-1 victory over Foley Meir

Cammell Laird 1907 FC welcomed league new boys Foley Meir to the KR Couriers and Transport stadium and put on a solid team performance to claim all three points due mainly to a hat-trick by Kieran Hamm.

Opening exchanges saw the visitors creating the better football but in the 18th minute, Lairds broke clear and Jay Harvey dispossessed the last defender to fire home a superb 20-yard effort that gave the keeper no chance, but within five minutes the scores were level as Meir created a great opportunity that Jayden Shepherd fired home from within the six-yard box.

Not to be deterred Lairds hit back nine minutes later when Kieran Hamm pounced to put Lairds back in front in the 31st minute.

Play ebbed and flowed for the remainder of the half with Lairds missing a couple of easy efforts to increase their lead before going in 2-1 up at the interval.

The second period saw Lairds start to dominate but had to wait until the 60th minute before increasing the lead with both Hamm and Jake Doran claiming the goal after a goalmouth scramble, with the goal being awarded to Doran by the referee.

But within six minutes Hamm did add to his tally after Jay Harvey was pulled back the visitor’s keeper and was sent off after conceding the 68th minute penalty, which Hamm blasted home past the deputy keeper.

He then completed his treble after winning another penalty in the 70th minute and fired home with ease to give Lairds a 5-1 lead. Cameron McGregor could easily have added two more to the tally, but good blocks and good saves prevented the score from increasing and Lairds completed back-to-back victories for the first time this season.

Next up are Wythenshawe Amateurs at home in the league on Tuesday 8 November with a 7.45pm kick off and that is followed by another home fixture versus Main Road on Saturday 12 November with a 3.00pm kick off.
