Cammell Laird 1907 FC continued their indifferent league form in their last two fixtures as they were beaten by third in the table Ellesmere Rangers on Tuesday 13 September, in display marred by poor defending and some poor officiating in a fixture best forgotten.
Things looked brighter on Saturday 17 September as Lairds entertained fourth place Brocton and within 10 minutes had taken the lead with a superb strike from Kalif Koura who ran onto a great through ball from Jake Hulley to fire home from just inside the box.
Laird’s frantic opening caught the visitors unprepared and livewire midfielder Ellis Bolton burst through in the 18th minute to leave Brocton’s keeper helpless as he fired home for a 2-0 lead.
Even with influential defender River Humphreys providing leadership, Lairds were unable to prevent Brocton from reducing the arrears in the 36th minute as the unchallenged Cameron Osborne scored from 12 yards to leave the score 2-1 at the interval.
The second period saw Lairds more defensive and looking to hold onto their lead and despite having very few chances themselves, they fell to the old sucker punch in the 89th minute as Will Findlay broke clear to level matters and earn Brocton a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw.
Laird’s next home fixture is Saturday 24 September versus Retford FC in the Isuzu FA Vase 2nd qualifying round with a 3.00pm kick off when they will be looking to continue their good cup form against the team from Nottingham.
