Goals from Jamie Walker and Andy Cook secured Bradford City the three points, as Rovers were defeated on their travels.
On a misty evening in West Yorkshire, the Rovers made a strong start. Just six minutes in, Josh Hawkes was overlapped by Ethan Bristow, who then provided an accurate cross from the left into the six-yard box. Despite passing through a group of defenders, none of the forwards were able to meet the ball.
At the half-hour mark, the hosts nearly broke the deadlock. Some impressive build-up play resulted in Cook having an opportunity to shoot, but he fired the ball wide of the target.
A few moments afterwards, Rovers went close, as Dacres-Cogley passed the ball to captain Hemmings, who was positioned on the edge of the area. However, Hemmings’ low shot was blocked by defender Sam Stubbs.
During the 37th minute, Rovers suffered an injury setback. Kieron Morris was brought down and had to leave the field, and he was replaced by Logan Chalmers.
During the first half, Bradford City were the more dominant team and they managed to open the scoring just two minutes before the break. It was Jamie Walker’s drilled shot that deflected off a defender and ended up in the back of the net, leaving Tranmere Rovers’ goalkeeper, Mateusz Hewelt, with no chance.
Midway through the second half, Tranmere were eager to level the score and they came close to doing so. Regan Hendry took a shot that went narrowly wide of the far post.
With 65 minutes played, Hendry had a promising chance for Tranmere. He capitalized on Davies’ headed knockdown and fired a left-footed shot from the left side of the box, aiming it across the goal. However, the shot crept just past Lewis’ post.
In the 74th minute, Tranmere conceded their second goal of the match. Adam Clayton’s corner kick from the right side was met by Cook’s looping header, which went over Hewelt and landed in the bottom right corner of the goal.
Tranmere host Mansfield Town for a 3pm kick off on Saturday 18 February in their next game of the 2022/23 League Two season.
