Tranmere hosted Barrow yesterday afternoon for a 3pm kick-off, in their latest fixture of the 2021/22 League 2 season.
Ahead of the game, manager Micky Mellon said, “There’s nothing like Boxing Day and New Years Day games. It’s always been a place in the calendar that we always look forward to. It’s a period we look forward to performing in and seeing fans come together to watch football at this time of the year.”
With both Liverpool and Everton games being postponed this weekend, Prenton Park will host the only professional game on Merseyside and Micky is urging as many people as possible to back the lads at Prenton Park.

Tranmere’s run now extends to five league wins on the trot following yesterday afternoon’s win over Barrow at Prenton Park.
Rovers got off to a great start, taking the lead on 7 minutes with a goal from Nicky Maynard. A Jay Spearing pass from a free-kick was placed perfectly for Maynard who slotted the ball past Barrow keeper, Paul Farman.
Barrow had a couple of chances during the first half, the best a Josh Gordon header at the 20-minute mark.
The second half saw a rejuvenated Barrow side who looked dangerous on the counter but they never managed to take advantage in the final third.
Following a couple of chances on goal from Maynard and Feeney, it was Kieron Morris who secured the three points for the home side. A pass from Elliot Nevitt lined up perfectly for Morris to fire a shot past Farman at his near post.
Rovers saw out the rest of the game and now sit at 3rd in the League 2 table, occupying an automatic promotion spot, just two points behind second-placed Northampton.
Tranmere visit Hartlepool United for a 7:45pm kick-off on Wednesday 29 December in their next League 2 fixture.
