Border Force seize £1m cash at Twelve Quays

On Monday 19 September, Merseyside Police officers arrested a 24-year-old man from Kidderminster on suspicion of Possession of Criminal Property.

Border Force officers carried out a routine vehicle stop at Twelve Quays Ferry Terminal in Birkenhead when approximately £1 million pounds in cash was discovered.

The trailer the man was collecting was searched by officers who recovered the cash which was hidden in a secret compartment.

The man has since been released under investigation and extensive police enquiries are ongoing to establish the provenance of the cash.

A successful cash detention application under the Proceeds of Crime Act was made by detectives from the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit (NWROCU) on Wednesday 21 September.

This means the cash will be detained for six months to allow officers to carry out their investigation.
