Birkenhead accountancy firm celebrates growth and searches for its 100th employee

The Accountancy Partnership, an online accounting firm that specialises in small business and sole trader finances, is on the hunt for its 100th member of staff following a sustained period of growth.

The business, based in Birkenhead, has increased its headcount by 38% in the last 12 months, onboarding accountants as well as new staff across the bookkeeping, payroll and administration teams.

Employee development and progression is a priority for the business, and it nurtures staff through providing training and additional qualifications. There are currently 12 members of staff being supported as they work to achieve industry-recognised accounting qualifications to join the three who have achieved new certificates in the past year while employed by the firm.

Four employees are on progression pathways within payroll while they gain on-job experience and training, two studying for the CIPP Payroll Technician Certificate, one working towards a Foundation Degree in Payroll Management and one training as a payroll clerk. Two employees achieved the Payroll Technician Certificate in the past year and one former payroll admin has completed payroll clerk training.

In addition, nine employees are studying for their AAT Bookkeeping qualifications. Upskilling is available and encouraged for all employees as part of The Accountancy Partnership’s commitment to uplifting and creating jobs in the local community.

Kathryn Bigelow, HR Assistant at The Accountancy Partnership, said, “It is great to work for a company that not only wants to see its employees succeed but also funds it and allows flexibility to study and take exams. It means there is a clearly mapped progression path within the company and no risk of becoming stuck in a role for too long.”

To accommodate the expanding team, The Accountancy Partnership is revamping its break room space complete with a pool table to add to the existing games room and on-site gym. The business also looks after the general wellbeing of staff and makes coming to work more affordable by providing free nutritious lunches and smoothies, unlimited access to company-funded counselling sessions and other perks such as fresh fruit.

In addition to supporting its workforce and local community, the team often takes part in charity events, having recently raised almost £6,000 through a series of challenges for Stick n Step, which helps children with cerebral palsy and their families. In September, 35 employees will be participating in the Tough Mudder challenge to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK and The British Heart Foundation in memory of payroll team member Sam Mollard’s husband.

Lee Murphy, managing director of The Accountancy Partnership, said, “We are very proud of the workplace culture that we have built at The Accountancy Partnership. Without a happy, well-supported and well-trained workforce, we cannot give clients the top service that they expect.

“Over the last 12 months, we have taken on a wave of new clients and have had to grow the team accordingly and are always on the lookout for new talent to join us to reach the milestone of 100 employees. It’s a really exciting time for us as a firm and for our employees who have the opportunity to showcase their skills and reach the next milestones in their careers. By providing a safe and comfortable environment for their development, we see very low staff turnover and high customer satisfaction, which is the goal for any business owner.”
